Menopause at 50 is rough. I started this journey a couple of years ago, not knowing what was happening to my body. I was like no, I’m too young for this, so it was a shocker when I found out that yes that is in fact what I’m going through.
The more I talk to ladies, I’m realizing everyone’s experience is different. I have a good friend that states her menopause had her hot and cold all of the time.
What is Menopause
According to bing, Menopause is A natural process of aging. The stage when the ovaries completely stop producing reproductive hormones, and there are no monthly periods for consecutive twelve months.
Otherwise there is Perimenopause, Menopause and Postmenopause.
Ok, so I did not have a period for Six months. The month I had a period, I didn’t have the night sweats, hot flashes as well as hot-cold, hot-cold….lol So what that meant is It resets again the following month. Tragic for me, because now I’m not sleeping well.
Symptoms of Menopause
There are a plethora of symptoms that vary from person to person.
- Irregular periods.
- Vaginal dryness.
- Hot flashes.
- Chills.
- Night sweats.
- Sleep problems.
- Mood changes.
- Weight gain and slowed metabolism
I can tell you that I have experienced all of those symptoms mentioned above. Mood disorder has been my biggest obstacle. I’m mad or happy with the drop of the hat. LOL yes, it does sound like I’m bipolar. The sad thing about menopause is that it causes so many health problems if not checked out.
Potential Health Issues
- Osteoporosis – the normal decline in bone density could be accelerated during menopause due to hormonal changes and the age
- Increases the risk of cardiovascular disease

The best way to find out your hormone levels is to get a Hormone Test. Most importantly this test will let you know your Follicle-stimulating hormone levels otherwise known as FSH as well as your estrogen level.
