Learn to read with phonics is the most effective way to teach our kids how to read. Not only learn basic words, but sets them up to be able to sound out much harder words.
My teenagers were brought up during a time when they stopped using phonics and went to rote memory. The rote memory route did not teach them basic sounds so therefore reading was harder for them to grasp. It was starting to effect their confidence and development, so my husband and I had to get back to the basics.
Introducing Phonics
When my last two children were born being eight years ago, we decided to start figuring out early how to educate them. As we definitely didn’t want the same scenario. When they turned about 7 months old, we started using flash cards. As they became old enough to focus we used the internet and apps that were geared more towards phonics.
Phonics for everyone
You have to wonder what makes some kids learn at a faster rate than others. After introducing phonics to my girls at an early age, their reading comprehension sky rocketed. And as a result it helped my vocabulary as well. I’m looking forward to starting my 2 year old grandson on the phonics train.
So in my many searches on line, I came across this app that teaches phonics. The one thing that stood out for me is that it functions like a game app. The child is taken on adventures and earns points all the while learning how to pronounce new words. This app is along the lines what the kids today are interested in. Phone or tablet it can be downloaded.
Solution
The solution in my opinion is to introduce Phonics as soon as possible. It will help your kids gain confidence in their ability to read and sound out words. Learning will start to be fun and not just a daunting task. Encouragement is always the number one way to support young children and their development. This is a good place to go for the terrible twos.
